ADHD and Parkinson’s disease

There has been discovery lately about those who suffer form ADHD may develop Parkinson in older age. The study indicates that such individual might have more chance to develop Parkinson disease in later age than those who don’t have such disorder. This was the conclusion of recent study at University of Utah in USA indicating such possibilities. This link even was found more strongly for those patients who take medicine for this disorder including drugs to control symptoms of this disorder such as Ritalin, which has been used for few decades. By the way such drugs don't treat but mostly subside the symptoms to certain percentage while taking it but has not a same effect in every patient.

Persons with ADD or ADHD if not treated at childhood will become adult patients with similar disorders. These disorders are both related to abnormality of brain function. ADHD or ADD symptoms in children include the following but not all kids have all of these symptoms:

-often hyperactive

-have problem with attention and concentration

-Easily forgetful

-often impulsive

-Easily loose school tools

-not organized

-often want to play video games

-get easily bored

-don’t do well in school specially in reading, writing or math

-often develop behavior problem at school

-might have problem making friends

-might suffer from anxiety or depression

-might suffer from poor self confidence

-and many other symptoms

Children who are not treated at young age not only will carry this problem to their adulthood, but also may develop learning problem, not succeed in school or going to college, depression, low self confidence, anxiety, bed wetting, aggressive behavior, loneliness, and in older age will have problem with keeping job, martial difficulty, alcoholism and drug addiction.

 

The best way to diagnose these problems is for child and his parents see a child psychologist. Psychologist doctor will do specialized test and interview child parents. There is a microprocessor device developed in USA which up to 91% diagnose such disorders and it was developed by famous psychology doctor specialize with these disorders. I also use such device to diagnose my patients for several years. 

 

Children with such problems have chance to overcome many of above symptoms with right package of psychological and behavior treatment. Besides, there are latest technology developed in USA called Neurofeedback which is very effective to rehabilitate these disorders along different forms of psychological treatment. This device use special video games which are quite fun for kids to play with while getting improvement in their cognitive function, attention, concentration, depression, OCD, and more. It also can improve cognitive ability in normal children.

 

The good news is that I imported the newest technology version from of Neurofeedback from USA beginning of this year and currently use with my kid patients.

 

Parenting training and evaluating parents own emotional issue also is the important part of this treatment package and if necessary I offer treatment to those parents who suffer from marital discord, depression, anxiety, divorce, separation and conflicts. Such treatments will help the child with these disorders to recover faster since every child needs a harmonious environment specially while struggling with ADD, ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia issues plus other emotional difficulties.
