First Aid Training for Sports People

On May 17th, Elite Squash Academy (ESA) invited IMC to hold the first session of Sports First Aid Training for athletes, sports coaches and sports enthusiasts.

The Elite Squash Academy is dedicated to promotion of squash, a healthy lifestyle, and the spirit of sportsmanship. With that in mind and awareness of the regular first aid courses that IMC organizes, ESA  intends to prepare sports people to learn and brush up on the basic first aid skills one might need when engaging in sports.

Participants from the fields of recreational and professional squash, tennis, karate, volleyball, yoga, physical education, soccer, and physical therapy attended a three-hour first aid training. They exchanged experiences and insights, laughed, and had fun while learning.

IMC’s Dr. Irena Mehandijska conducted the training and covered the following topics:

* Roles & responsibilities of a Sports First Aider

* Prevention and assessment of sports injuries

* Common sports injuries (sprains, strains, dislocation, fractures)

* Sports-specific injuries (head, neck, chest, spinal, abdominal, eye injuries)

* Medical emergencies (chest pain, asthma, anaphylaxis)

* CPR

These were followed by practical training sessions of CPR and first aid kit usage.

IMC First Aid Certificates confirming the completion of the training were awarded to the participants.
