Teach your kids about First Aid!

Author:Dr.Irena Mehandjiska Shumanska

01. Educate your kids about first aid

The most important thing we all learned from last year is how crucial for our good health is the prevention of diseases and prevention of different kinds of emergencies. We can update the things we know about staying healthy and safe every day. I always want to additionally educate my patients about accepting their bodies and how to be more responsible for their own health and well-being. I always want to educate them on how to be prepared for any emergency and teach their kids and families how to react when emergencies happen.

For that reason, two years ago together with IMC International Medical Center (Beijing), we started to organize first aid training. We have trained individual groups and communities, sports clubs, embassies, international schools, and kindergartens. Almost every month, we organize two different types of training in Chinese and English. So far, we have trained staff from schools like Harrow International School, Jack and Jill School, Montessori Kindergarten Children’s House, the companies like Huawei and many more. We also organize first aid training for kids where the school age children can learn how to give first aid. Many residental compounds around Beijing have invited us to teach their staff and residents too.

02. What are the topics?

The usual content in first aid training include: the basics of first aid, medical emergencies, most common emergencies, environmental emergencies, basic life support-CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), and practical sessions.

The very basics of first aid that you can teach your kids are: how they can call an ambulance, teach them about bleeding control, stop, drop, and roll-fire safety, CPR, how to avoid dog bites, avoid poisoning, first aid for choking, etc.

03. Reviews from participants who finished the first aid training with IMC

1. "The course focused nicely on babies, young children and also comprehensively included basic first aid skills for all ages even adults.CPR exercises in particular were memorable. The course was intensive and appropriately practical. I hope I do not need such skills, but if necessary, I am prepared now, at least."

2. "Thank you for helping our community know about these important life saving skills! We feel so much safer now"

3. "The class was great, thank you! Especially enjoyed the practical part and interaction between all participants! "

On the 30th and 31st of January, we will organize two first aid training in English and Chinese. You are all welcome to take part and learn first aid skills that will prepare you and your family for any emergency. Stay safe and protect your health and well-being.
